About the Interactive Floor

As a society, we have slowly engineered movement out of our daily lives. Because of this, today’s children are expected to face a shorter life expectancy than their parents. Conducted research shows that 80% of young children in the Netherlands do not get enough daily movement. Education plays a major role in this worrying trend, where we basically learn children to sit still and be quiet.

In co-creation with designers, programmers, pedagogues and of course children, we’ve developed a solution: an Interactive Floor with several games that combine physical activity, social interaction and learning. The Interactive Floor platform and its games provide new ways of furthering educational, social and motor development in a fun and healthy way.

I worked on the Interactive Floor at Springlab fulltime for almost two years. Started with a core team of only four, we’ve grown to an interdisciplinary team of 20+ people within a single year. Together with the core team I was responsible for the final product in general, and the marketing and communications in particular. The Interactive Floor has now been sold to hundreds of educational institutions through the Netherlands.

Children are always very excited when they can play on the Interactive Floor. The combination of playing, learning, moving and working together is very important for the children.
